Note opninions on how small business is hampered internationally and might be aided by standards:
Corinne Pohlmann cited ways Canadian standards development organizations can reduce red tape for SMEs:

Dealing with government regulations and paper burden is a significant issue for the CFIB’s members, said Corinne Pohlmann. When trading with the European Union (EU), she added, a key reason why many small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) no longer buy or sell goods and/or services to that region is having to deal with different rules and standards in each EU country.

I have a small business and it can be quite difficult for me to promote my services, so I’m constantly looking for new ways and opportunities. Not so long ago, I discovered LinkedIn and actively began to work with this social network. By the way, I also learned how to put LinkedIn on business card so that my potential customers who get my business card can find me on this network.
